The overtopping tank at Zeebrugge is operational again

Added on 2017-01-18
Ghent University (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Civil Engineering) has restarted its measurements with the overtopping tank at Zeebrugge.

On 25 November 2016, the pressure sensors were reinstalled in the overtopping tank on the western breakwater at Zeebrugge. This construction makes it possible to measure volumes of overtopping water to better understand the transfer process of waves during storm conditions. The overtopping tank will be operational throughout the year and until the end of the CREST project. The new measurements will be added to the dataset collected in 2002-2004 during the European project CLASH. This long-term series of data will be analysed to improve the safety criteria for hard protection measures (e.g. dike, breakwater).
